Welcome to Autumn Whiteway | Artist in Residence
We are welcoming Autumn Whiteway to Bridlewood School on September 12 to14 and September 19 to 21.
Autumn Whiteway (“Night Singing Woman”) is a Saulteaux (Ojibway)/Métis archaeologist, artist, educator and curator based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta). Her painting and digital art is primarily focused on the symbolic Woodland Style of art. During her residency at Bridlewood, Autumn will be working with each class and teacher to explore our school’s big idea, “We Are All Connected” through Woodland style art.
Woodland Style Art is an Indigenous art form developed by artist Norval Morrisseau and inspired by ancient rock art and images on birch bark scrolls. Sometimes referred to as "Medicine Painting", it uses bright and colourful imagery filled with symbolism. It highlights the interconnections of nature and humanity.
Thank you to the Bridlewood School Fundraising Society for supporting this residency to enhance the learning of all students at Bridlewood School.
