CBE students, staff and their families and friends are invited to join an event being hosted by the City of Calgary in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District. The third annual ceremonial opening is taking place on Sept. 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Fort Calgary (750 9th Ave SE). This year's gathering will include a smudge tent, in-person Indigenous speakers and performers, an aerial salute ceremony, and other events. The events will also include an intertribal dance demonstration featuring Indigenous students from the CBE and CCSD. Participants are encouraged to wear orange.

Following the YYC, CBE & CCSD event, all are invited to join the Pokaiks – The Children Commemorative Annual Walk and Gathering 2023. The walk will begin at 11 a.m. at City Hall (15-minute walk from Fort Calgary or 2-minute drive) and continue to Shaw Millenium Park (30-minute walk). The walk will be followed by drumming/dancing, Indigenous community speakers, artisan booths, and food sales.

Urgent Call Out for Volunteers | BSFS Casino Fundraiser Oct. 12 & 13

The Bridlewood Casino is our school's largest fundraising event. Our school earns the charitable gaming proceeds raised through the AGLC Casino event, approximately $65,000 to put towards our students and school! This is the most important fundraising activity we do as a school, and we need many volunteers to commit to this event or we will lose the fundraising opportunity.

Watch this video to learn more.

Who: Anyone who is 18 years of age and over, who does not have a criminal conviction
Where: Deerfoot Inn & Casino, 11500 35 Street SE
When: October 12 or 13, shifts are from either 10:00am to 7:30pm OR 7:00pm to 3:30am
Why: Each volunteer shift brings in approx. $2,000 for our school. Funds from the Casino are used to support our children’s learning.

In 2022/2023 funds brought Bridlewood Elementary School students’ program enhancements such as Elder Shirley Hill Hoop Dancing and the Drumming Residency. In addition, the funds provide educational enrichment for our children by purchasing new library books, chrome books, and classroom equipment.

The casino has Casino Advisors who will train the volunteers about their roles and are available the entire time to answer questions. The shifts are fun, easy, and there is one free meal per shift provided, as well as snacks and refreshments. If you have questions or want to know more, please email Amy at bridlewoodschoolcouncil@gmail.com.
