Hello Bridlewood School Parents/Guardians,

Please read on to learn more about what is happening at Bridlewood School.

Bridlewood School Development Plan

Our 2024-2025 School Development Plan (SDP) focuses in two key areas:

  • Helping students develop skills and abilities for self-regulation and self-management
  • Helping students develop and improve their confidence and skills to communicate effectively in writing.

These two areas become key aspects of teacher professional learning and growth, as we seek to bring consistent approaches and practices to our school as a whole and into each of our classrooms.

Over the past months, teachers have been working with students to help them develop a strong emotional vocabulary. By learning to recognize and express their feelings, we are better able to communicate our needs and manage challenges (social or academic) in a positive way.  Students have also been exploring how the brain works through thinking and feeling, understanding how emotions can be recognized and experienced through physical cues, and ways in which we can manage big emotions.

Gratitude

Part of our work in supporting well-being includes the creation of spaces where under the supervision of teachers and/or support staff students can access tools and environmental conditions to help them navigate their sensory needs.  Earlier this school year, the Bridlewood School Fundraising Society (BSFS) approved funds for us to purchase new materials for our two dedicated sensory rooms.  The first shipment of materials arrived last week.  We are grateful to have these new materials and to those involved in the BSFS for their generosity and care.

Thank you also to the parents who attended our School Council and Parent Society meetings on Wednesday, January 15 and to those who helped with Thursday’s fun lunch. Please email: bridlewoodschoolcouncil@gmail.com for more information on how you can be involved with the council and through volunteering at the school.

Upcoming

February includes important events such as Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, Family Day, the beginning of Ramadan, and Pink Shirt Day.  At Bridlewood we will continue our ongoing efforts to set the conditions for a welcoming, safe, caring, and respectful environment where everyone finds a sense of belonging and inclusion.

Please note that our Grade 5 students will host an assembly on February 26, where they will acknowledge Pink Shirt Day and focus on how the attributes of a strong school community lay the groundwork for reducing incidents of bullying.  In a later update, we will provide the time for this assembly so that parents/guardians who wish can plan to attend.

Report Cards

On January 27 student Report Cards will become available to parents/guardians through MyCBE accounts.  Please contact teachers should you require a printed copy of the report card.

Wishing you an excellent week ahead.
