Hello Bridlewood School Parents/Guardians

Please read on for this week's information and updates.

School Planning Survey | Response to Feedback and Questions raised

Thank you to those who have completed our School Planning Survey.  Your feedback and questions are appreciated.  If you have not yet had an opportunity to participate, please be reminded that the survey will remain open until March 14.

The Bridlewood School Development Plan (SDP) focuses on two key areas: academic achievement in written expression and social-emotional development, particularly in self-management (regulation). This plan is supported by school data and aligned with the CBE Education Plan. Guided by research and our collective experience, the learning team at Bridlewood School recognizes the strong connection between social-emotional development and academic success.

In pursuit of these goals, we begin by identifying universal strategies that support all learners. For example, exploring human emotions and experiences through texts, and encouraging reflection through written expression, is a key strategy. Another universal approach involves teaching students about how our brains work and how to identify and manage stress. These efforts help students (and adults!) navigate the challenges of the human experience.

School Funding | Support for Students with Exceptionalities

Special Education Needs are identified through qualified professionals, such as pediatricians or psychologists. In Alberta, school funding is allocated based on a range of factors, including support for special education.

Each year, schools receive funding directed toward staffing, which includes administrative staff, teachers, educational assistants, lunch staff, and more. This year, at Bridlewood important support for all students including those with exceptionalities has come through carefully determined increases and/or reallocation of staff.

Class size and complexity remain persistent challenges in public education. However, we are confident that by combining strong universal strategies with targeted support, accommodations, and interventions—facilitated by dedicated educators—we can ensure all students succeed according to their individual abilities.

Pedestrian Safety

Please look out for each other

The City of Calgary provides comprehensive guidelines for traffic safety.  Bridlewood staff assist pedestrians at the controlled crossing both during morning arrival and after school.  Yet, we often notice many adults and children crossing the street mid-block. This is very unsafe practice.  Adults are strongly advised to model safe crossing procedures by walking with students/children within their care to the unmarked crossing or the marked crossings.

Traffic Safety | A few important reminders

  • Stop for all pedestrians crossing in a crosswalk – it is the law.
  • Never pass a vehicle at a crosswalk.
  • Wait until the pedestrian has completely cleared the intersection before proceeding.
  • Make eye contact.
  • When turning left at an intersection, check to your left to make sure there are no pedestrians.
  • When turning right, check both ways to ensure there are no pedestrians nearby.

Parking

  • Staff Parking lot – is for staff parking only.  Please do not drop or pick up children/students off in the parking lot.
  • AVOID blocking driveways.
  • Do not park within five metres of a marked crosswalk or intersection.
  • Turn your car off when parked.
