Hello Bridlewood Parents and Families
Hope this message finds you finishing your week in a good way. Please read on for updates and information.
Paul Davis Assembly
Division 2 students attended their session with Paul Davis on Friday morning. Students were asked to write down key information to share with parents/guardians. Please take some time this weekend to discuss topics covered with your student. Here are a few helpful questions:
- Do kids need an iPhone? (flip phones are cool and offer higher levels of security)
- What do we mean when we say, “Delete is a myth?”
- What is the legal age for social media account use?
- Should kids use technology behind the closed doors of their bedrooms? (No)
- How can we keep our passwords secure?
- Are people we meet online friends? Are they even real people?
Paul will be sharing more information for parents in the coming week. Thank you to Bridlewood School Council for endorsing this event through the provision of funds to cover Mr. Davis’ presentation fee.
Bridlewood School Council and Bridlewood School Fundraising Society (BSFS) would like to welcome all Bridlewood School Families to the 2024-2025 school year!
School Council and BSFS meetings are a place where you can meet other parents/guardians and school staff, learn of activities going on in the school, and share your input in supporting our school community. Whether you can help weekly, monthly, or spare a few hours throughout the year, we encourage you to join us on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30 PM at Bridlewood School, to learn about the exciting programs planned for this year. If you have any questions about School Council, please feel free to reach out to bridlewoodschoolcouncil@gmail.com
The first Council and Bridlewood School Fundraising Society is Wednesday, September 18, at 6:30 PM.
Picture Day
September 19 is Picture Day. Volunteers with current police clearance can help us manage the crew on picture day. Please register through Sign Up Genius.
Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity to assist.
Meet the Teacher Open House
Please plan to join your child/student at our Annual Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday September 26 from 5:00- 7:00 PM. As a special addition, our School Council has arranged for The Ice Cream Truck to park out front of the school. Cold treats will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $2.00 - $6.00.
Student Specific Parent/Teacher Meetings
Within the next two weeks, teachers will reach out to Parents/guardians whose children/students are supported with Individualized Program Plans (IPPs). They will request an opportunity to meet with you to discuss updates and/or initiation of new IPPs. First drafts of IPPs will be shared with families no later than October 18.
Volunteers 2024-2025 | PIC (Police Information Check) including a Vulnerable Sector Check
Before applicants are permitted to volunteer in Calgary Board of Education schools (CBE schools), they must have a cleared PIC.
For the 2024-2025 school year, CBE and Calgary Police Services (CPS) have implemented a solution to have the full cost of the application covered by a voucher system funded by Volunteer Alberta.
Voucher costs are covered for Online Applications only. If you apply in-person an application fee will apply.
Volunteers should wait to submit their application until they receive an email from PoliceSoluntions.ca – CPS Record Check inviting them to apply for their PIC with the Vulnerable Sector (VS) for Volunteer. This will ensure the voucher is ready to be redeemed by the volunteer.
If a volunteer submits their own payment, there is no option for a refund. Additionally, there is no refund option for volunteers who have previously submitted and paid for ePIC applications.
School Enrolment
As we continue to welcome new students to our school, we are closely monitoring how we can best support students. In the next few weeks, we will review staff allocations and classes. Our enrolment is currently sitting at 501students.
