A Reminder About Bus Behaviour

We have recently received some concerning reports regarding student behaviour on school buses and would like to take a moment to review expectations with our community.

The School Act reminds us that students are responsible for treating others with respect and for contributing to a positive school environment in all activities, including while travelling to and from school.

Bus expectations are outlined in Administrative Regulation 6095 | Student Transportation. We kindly ask families to review the key expectations below with students who ride the yellow bus. These expectations will continue to be reinforced by both bus drivers and school staff.

Student Responsibilities on School Buses

Students riding a school bus are responsible for their conduct to the bus driver and, through the driver, to the school principal. The bus driver is in full charge of the bus, and their directions must be followed at all times. Drivers may assign specific seats to students when necessary.

Violation of bus rules may result in loss of riding privileges, suspension from school, or other disciplinary measures in accordance with AR 6006 | Progressive Student Discipline.

Key Expectations

  • The bus driver must be respected at all times.
  • Students must behave in a quiet and courteous manner at bus stops and on the bus, showing consideration for the comfort and safety of others.
  • Students must remain seated, facing forward, while the bus is in motion and must not move about the bus or attempt to get on or off while it is moving.
  • Arms and heads must not be extended out of bus windows.
  • Scuffling, fighting, and the use of obscene language are prohibited.
  • Students must not distract the driver with excessive noise.
  • Any student causing willful damage to a bus will be held fully accountable.

When expectations are not followed, consequences may include loss of bus privileges or further school-based discipline, in alignment with AR 6006 | Progressive Student Discipline.

For additional information, families are encouraged to review AR 6095 | Student Transportation – School Bus Rules and Discipline.

Introducing the Golden Shoe Award at Bridlewood!

We are excited to introduce the Golden Shoe Award, launched on December 15! This program recognizes classes that demonstrate outstanding responsibility in helping keep our school clean and safe.

Classes earn the Golden Shoe Trophy by:

  • Keeping shoe mats tidy
  • Carrying boots to the mats before putting them on
  • Helping maintain clean floors and safe hallways

Each Friday morning, one class from Division 1 and one from Division 2 is awarded the trophy.

This week’s Golden Shoe winners are:

  • Ms. Baker’s Grade 3 class
  • Ms. McQueen’s Grade 4 class

Students manage this program independently with minimal reminders from teachers. Announcements are made by students from the previous week’s winning classes, who then pass the trophy on to the new recipients. We are enjoying celebrating teamwork, responsibility, and pride in our school community!
