Stay Informed

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please read on for this week’s updates and reminders.

Helping Keep Everyone Healthy and Learning

As we move through cold and flu season, we appreciate your support in keeping our school community healthy. Please keep children home when they are ill and allow them time to recover before returning to school.

Respiratory illnesses (colds, flu, COVID-19, etc.)

Please keep your child home until their symptoms have improved, they feel well enough to participate in regular daily activities, and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.

Vomiting and/or diarrhea

Children should remain home until at least 48 hours after their last episode.

Rashes and other contagious conditions

Please follow the guidance provided by your health-care provider or Alberta Health Services regarding when your child can return to school.

For more information, please visit Alberta Health Services: Influenza and Respiratory Illness.

Thank you for helping us care for one another and ensuring students are ready to learn when they return to school.

Arriving on Time for Learning

We have noticed that some students are consistently arriving late for morning attendance.

As a friendly reminder, classes begin at 8:00 AM, and students may enter the building and head to their classrooms starting at 7:55 AM.

We understand that occasional late arrivals happen. However, when lateness becomes a regular pattern, students can miss important learning, classroom routines, and opportunities to connect with their classmates. Late arrivals can also interrupt learning for others.

Thank you for helping your child arrive on time and ready to begin the day with their learning team. Establishing consistent morning routines helps students start their day feeling settled, connected, and ready to learn.

Supporting Outdoor Play

Students will be learning and playing outdoors in various weather conditions. Students remain indoors only when temperatures are frigid, at –20°C or below, including the wind chill.

Please ensure your child comes to school dressed for the weather, with appropriate clothing and gear to enjoy their time outdoors.

Indoor shoes are required for all students.

If your family needs help with winter clothing, footwear, or other supplies, please contact us. We are often able to connect directly with organizations that can provide these items at little or no cost to families.

Provincial Screener Results for Students in Grades 1–5

Beginning this week, teachers will be sending home the results of the provincial literacy and numeracy screeners completed this fall by students in Grades 1–5. The Calgary Board of Education will also share information with parents and guardians by email on Monday, October 26.

Teachers will send home an envelope in students’ backpacks containing:

  • A brief letter
  • Your child’s screener results
  • An information sheet explaining the screeners

These results provide an early snapshot of your child’s learning and help inform instructional planning and support.

Teachers look forward to discussing the results, along with your child’s progress toward the curricular outcomes taught so far this year, during Parent-Teacher Conferences in November.

Please note: Kindergarten students will complete their screeners in January 2027.

Halloween at Bridlewood School

We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30! Students are welcome to wear a costume or their pajamas that day.

AM Kindergarten students may wear their costumes or pajamas on Thursday, October 29. Halloween-themed learning activities will take place in classrooms and with buddy groups.

To help everyone participate comfortably and safely, costumes must allow students to take part in all activities. Please ensure costumes are school-friendly:

  • No inflatables
  • No masks
  • No weapons
  • No gore

To help keep all students safe, we do not share food at school due to allergies and individual needs. Please do not send Halloween candy to school.

We look forward to enjoying a fun day of learning and celebrating together while being respectful and mindful of the sensitivities and individual needs of our school community.
